- Jung Medalist in Men’s Individual Play -
Trinity, Texas (RCGA) – Albin Choi and Richard Jung, both of Toronto, combined for an impressive 22-under par at Whispering Pines Golf Course in Trinity, TX to finish tied for fourth at The Spirit Invitational, a 72-hole best ball International amateur championship conducted by The World Health & Golf Association.
The pair played extremely well, narrowly missed a medal finish by a single shot. Italy finished atop the men’s leaderboard at -27, Korea finished second at -24, and Chinese Taipei finished third at -23. Canada finished tied for fourth with Denmark.
“Richard and Albin clearly established themselves as world class amateurs with breakthrough performances against a fantastic field,” said Henry Brunton, Captain for the Canadian contingent. “They played extremely well on an outstanding venue and we look forward to many great finishes from these young golfers for years to come.”
Jung was a bronze medalist in the individual men's competition - medals awarded to top 3 players who have the most strokes under par for the competition. He made 10 birdies and three eagles in the event.
Rebecca Lee-Bentham of Richmond Hill, Ont. and Anne Catherine Tanguay of Quebec, Que. combined to tally a one-over par (75-68-74-72) 289 which gave them a 16th place finish among the women’s 20 teams.
The men’s and women’s sides combined to give Canada a tie for eighth at 21-under par in the event’s International Leaderboard. U.S.A. finished first at -45, Korea second at -41 and Denmark third at -33.
